Buenos Aires, January 27 (NA) -- Vélez defeated Talleres 2-1 at Liniers and maintained a perfect score in the 2026 Apertura Tournament, in a match marked by the home team's efficiency and the visitors' lack of finishing. Under high temperatures and with an even development, the game offered few clear chances, but Talleres managed to take the lead in the first half from a set-piece. Following a corner kick executed by Giovanni Baroni, Augusto Schott won the header in the area and scored 1-0. Before that, Vélez had wasted a clear chance with a shot from Braian Romero. The second half had more intensity and better attacking intentions: Vélez equalized after a shot from Diego Valdés that was deflected by Matías Catalán's header, and shortly after went ahead with a direct free kick from Manuel Lanzini, which surprised Guido Herrera. After the 2-1, Talleres had several opportunities to equalize, but they ran into the solidity of Álvaro Montero, who was decisive against shots from Valentín Depietri, Schott, and Rick, the latter in a one-on-one after a precise assist from Ronaldo Martínez. The visitors missed again, while Vélez did not, as ten minutes from the end, Joaquín García, returning from a long injury, took advantage of a rebound inside the area and finished powerfully to secure the win. Talleres avoided a penalty thanks to a VAR intervention, but could not change the course of the match.
